LJ: Have we imprisoned our students?

With promises of in-person seminars and an imminent return to ‘normal’ university living, our students were enticed onto campus to begin their journey through higher education. Now, with the country in a new lockdown amidst ever changing Covid-19 rules and regulations, our students find themselves restricted to their halls – unable to congregate and with all their classes online.

Did they party too hard and spread the virus? Should they be allowed to meet together? Are they able to have meaningful university experiences? Should we be worried for their mental and physical health?

This is the topic of Liberal Judaism’s Hot Potatoes discussion, featuring Labour MP Nadia Whittome, Professor Adam Sutcliffe, First year Cambridge University student Jack Lubner, and Progressive Judaism student chaplain Rabbi Anna Posner.
