JW3: Israel Updates Summer Programme

This 6-week course will emphasise the miracle of the last 72 years in Israel and the actions which shaped the character of the society and country.

By popular demand, JW3 teacher Ian Lucas will continue his weekly political updates through the summer, and given current developments, especially the trial of Benjamin Netanyahu, this is guaranteed to elicit a wealth of debate and questions.

Topics covered will include:

  • Ben Gurion, the visionary, the man, and the myths

  • The Nakba from both "sides of the coin"

  • Israel's struggle to survive

  • Israel as a technological superpower

South African-born Ian served in the IDF and taught History and English at a kibbutz area high school. He was the central Shaliach of Habonim in South Africa 1983-1985.  He is passionate about History and about Israel and is a natural and knowledgeable communicator.
