JW3: Current Affairs on Bank Holiday

Join Paula this May Bank Holiday Monday and be part of for the liveliest discussion group in London.

Paula is an historian and writer. She is the project manager and historian for a project that is building a digital archive on the Jewish experience of the First World War. Paula is a regular contributor to the Historian magazine of the Historical Association, and has written articles for commemorative publications for the Royal British Legion, the MOD and JW3.

She has written education materials for the Department of Education, the Scottish Executive, the British Library, the Historical Association and others. She is an independent battlefield guide and a history tours advisor for Rayburn Tours. Paula lectures in many aspects of cultural history in particular relating to war and genocide for adult audiences.

Ben Morris, known as Hon. Fire, will teach you, your Bubbe and the whole mishpocha the basics of beatboxing. Ben has been making mouth noises for six years, lending vocal percussion to Oxford’s Out of the Blue and competing in the UK Beatbox Championships. While beatboxing is his hobby, though, teaching and spreading it is his passion.

LSJS: Seder Night with my Ancestors with Dr Aviva Dautch

Dr Aviva Dautch will explore modern Jewish writing about the stories, themes and celebrations of Pesach. We will study a range of poems (in Hebrew and translation) by Israeli poets including Yehuda Amichai and Agi Mishol as well as English poems by writers ranging from Joanne Limburg to Longfellow, and enjoy the humour of famous literary seders in novels by Michael Chabon and Herman Wouk.
